Welcome, aspiring party photographer
Edit: although I am publishing this post for the first time in August 2021, I first started writing it last year. I was planning to write more regularly and thought I should get a few posts scheduled and ready in advance so that I could post consistently for a while. But as always, life gets in the way and here I am with posts that will never get published if I keep waiting for the perfect circumstances. I have no idea when the next post will get published but hey, I can live with it. At least that’s one post out of the way. Now to the next one!
Hi there, you might wonder, of all times, why do I choose now (November 2020, as the Covid-19 pandemic still rages) to talk about party photography?
Well, guess what? I barely could keep this blog when I was shooting on weekends, so I never really thought of actually writing for my site, which I use mainly to publish party photo sets.
However, many months in the pandemic, and as we recently learned encouraging news on the vaccination front, I figured now is as good a time as any to start writing.
Who am I, anyway?
Fair question. Photography is not my main job. I actually work in marketing here in South Korea. However, I have been carrying around a DSLR camera for well over ten years now. During all that time, the majority of my pictures were taken at night clubs and bars of Seoul. Gangnam, Hongdae, Itaewon, Cheongdam, you name it.
I believe my technique improved over the years as I discovered a lot of tricks that apply specifically to night event photography.
I have also worked for different types of customers, with different needs and expectations.
Meanwhile, I used my photography in my marketing work, including shooting product pictures (fashion, electronics) as well as a bit of architecture photography.
What content to expect?
Recently, a friend and long-time business partner got into photography and started to ask me a lot of questions. That’s when I realized that maybe over the years, without really thinking about it, I had accumulated some knowledge worth sharing.
In the coming posts, I am going to start with the basics. The main focus will be on party photography, though you might find the advice applicable to general photography.
Ask away!
With that said, if you have any question, feel free to ask in the comment section, as it could also help me develop further on topics relevant to YOU.
Cheers!
